Cromwell Museum

Every winter the Cromwell Museum hosts a winter series of guest speakers who are experts in their fields of knowledge such as history, geology, archaeology and culture of Central Otago.


Speakers in the past have included Dr Lisa Matisoo-Smith, Dr Caroline Orchiston, Dr Ian Griffith and Les Wong.

The 2020 event has been postponed due to Covid-19 until further notice.



Winter Series Cromwell Museum


The series commences on Sunday 19th July - 3 - 5.00 pm with a talk by Carey Knox Senior Ecologist Wildland Consultants Ltd ‘Newly Discovered Lizards of Central Otago'


9th August Sean Bronsnhan ‘Journey to New Edinburgh: the story of Otago’s Pioneers’


23rd August Jo Wakelin, Central Otago Polytechnic ‘Low on H20’


6th September Professor Hugh Campbell ‘Are we losing the social license to farm?’


20th September Brian Patrick, Senior Ecologist & Entomologist Wildland Consultants Ltd ‘ Nature’s Rainbow - Discovering NZ’s exciting butterflies’


All talks commence on the Sunday at 3.00 pm refreshments will be provided.

Limited to 30 people - bookings are essential, contact to museum to place your name on the list


The Cromwell Museum has recently installed new museum shelving and mobile shelving units. This was achieved through the sponsorship funding from Pub Charities Ltd and The Trust Community Foundation.


This new shelving will enable us to house our collection in accordance with Museum Practice and protect it for future generations.
